There was an argument between Siva and Parvathi. Angrily Siva cursed the devi and she asked for his pardon. Siva ordered Parvathi to do penance to Sri Varaha standing on one leg. Accordingly Parvathi did penance in this place for a long time and Sri Varaha appeared before Devi Parvathi and fulfiled her desire to rejoin Lord Siva. Once Devi Parvathi and Lakshmi were conversing with each other in this place. Sri Maha-vishnu hid himself and over-heard their coversation. Parvathi Devi found out about this and called him "Kalvan" (thief) Hence this place has come to be known as Thiru-Kalvanoor.
