Special merits of this temple:
The Bramanda Purana says that whoever worships the deity in this temple would get
back all the wealth that they had lost.
Once a descendant of sage vyasa called Gupthan had eight boys and two girls.
He was very poor. He was struggling with his large family in utter poverty. One day he went
to see his Guru Sage Bharatwaja and asked him for a solution to this problems.
The sage went on meditation and saw through his spiritual vision
Gupthan's past birth told him of all his misdeeds.
"Gupthan in your past birth you were very rich. But you would not help others and were very greedy. You were not god fearing and insulted the saints. One day the king of that region called you and enquired about your wealth. But you lied to the king. The same night all your wealth was stolen by burglars and you died of that shock. Even those born in the family of sages have to suffer for their past sins. So if you went to Thiru-Koloor and worship Vaitha-manidhi perumal the sins of your past birth would be wiped off and you would be blessed by Thiru-koloor perumal." Accordingly Gupthan went to koloor and worshipped Lord Vaitha-Nidhi Perumal for many years and Lord vishnu appeared before him and blessed him. He became very rich and he endowed the temple with large amount of wealth for the benefit of all the people. He lived long and attained moksham in this place.
