This legend:
is described in detail in Brananda-puranam.
Once there was a deluge in Satya logam. (Sri Bramah's abode) There was a demon called Somukasuran who stole Bramah's Srishti Rahasya Grandham ( the book with notes on creation) and ran away. Bramah was worried and he wished to do penance to Vishnu for regaining the notes. Hence he created a boy and sent him to earth to find out a place suitable for his penance. That boy came to river Thambara-barani to search for a place for Brahma's penance but fell in love with a girl and completely forgot his mission. Bramah was waiting for him but there was no news. Later he created a girl and sent her to earth to find out a place for his penance. That girl came to the earth and found a place on the banks of the river Dhambara-barani and informed Bramha. The creator came to the earth and went to the banks of the river and did penance to Sri Vishnu for many years. The lord appeared before him and enquired about the purpose for his penance. Bramah told the Lord that his 'Srushti Rahasyam' was stolen by a demon called Somukasuran and requested for help to regain the notes. Accordingly Sri Vishnu found the demon's hiding place, fought with him and regained the notes of creation and handed them over to Brahma. Bramah was very happy and chanted many hymns on sri Vishnu. On Brahma's request the Lord took abode here as Sri Vaikundapathi.
