When Sri Vishnu incarnated as Narasimha and killed Hiranyakasibu he was in a very ferocious mood.
All the devas were afraid and prayed to Sri Lakshmi. The goddess appeared before devas and directly
went to the Lord and sat on his lap. As soon as Vishnu saw Devi he calm down and happily
embraced her. Henceforth this place is called Thiru-alinga-puri.
All the devas prayed to Sri Narasimha and Sri Lakshmi and acceding to their prayer they took abode here.
