Legend:
Once Nandhikeswarer (Lord Siva's mount) went to Sri Vishnu logam to meet vishnu without getting permission from the guards. Hence the guards diclined entrance to him and cursed Nandhi that he should suffer from a disease that coiuld not be diagnosed. Nandhi went back to kailash and told siva that he had suffered a curse from Vishnu's guards. Siva told Nandhi that there was a remedy to cure his unknown decease. He should go to shenbaga-aaranyam and do penance to vishnu who he would cure him of his disease just by his merciful benign vision. Nandhi accordingly went to shenbaka-Aaranyam and did penence to Sri vishnu for many years. Atlast Sri Vishnu appeared before him and asked him the purpose of his penance. Nandhi told the past story to Narayana and about the curse from vishnu's guards. Hence the penance as advised by siva. Immediately the curse was lifted by Vishnu's merciful sight. Further Nandhi asked Sri Vishnu that he should stay forever in that place and this kshetram should be named after himself.Sri Vishnu agreed and disappeared. This is the reason why this kshetram is called Nandipura-Vinnagaram. |
