Legend:
There was an argument between Naradha and Bramah.
At the end Brahma cursed Naradha that he would become an illiterate human being.
Because of the curse Naradha was despondent and came to this place.
He was very sad and was sitting under a tree. An oracle-voice told Naradha that he should do
penance to Sri Vishnu.
Accordingly Naradha did penance for many years. Vishnu appeared before him and asked Naradha the purpose of the penance. Naradha said " O Lord my humble pranams. I was cursed by bramah because I have no knowledge about the law of creation. kindly teach me and grant me the boon that I should be a knowledgable person. Lord Vishnu made Naradha as a scholar. Following this Naradha composed a holy work called Naradha-Puranam in 4000 stanzas in praise of Lord Vishnu here. Naradha requested the Lord to take abode in this place. Sri Narayana accepted this and incarnated as Kamalanathan in this temple.
