All at once there was a war between gods and demons. The demons won the war. The devas lost the war and went to pray to Sri vishnu. Vishnu appeared sitting on his mount Garuda holding Shank and Chakkaram to help devas . Vishnu fought with demons. At last he scattered all demons with his disc. The powerful demons were running all over. The demons went prayed ardently to Lord Siva for his help to fight Vishnu. Being bound by sincere prayers of his devotees who-ever they were Lord Siva to help the asuras intercepted Vishnu's disc with his trident. The trident and disc covered the universe like mist. Finally Lord Siva realized that Sri Vishnu was tri-swaroopam ( Brahma, Vishnu and sivam together). Siva stoped the war and withdrew his trident and Sri Vishnu calmed down. Siva told Sri Vishnu to take back his disc and appear as santha- swaroopi. Vishnu did the same. Lord Siva further asked Sri Vishnu that he should incarnate for ever in this place and Brahma and himself would stay along with him.
Aathiseshan hit the earth in this place with his tail and a spring came out. That holy spring is called 'Sesha-theertham' and this place is called Thiru + Vahinda + Puram. In modern days it is called Thiru-vayindhira-puram in colloquial pronunciation.
