This kshetram is located in a pleasing village atmosphere. There are thick jungles with clear
water ponds etc.
Legend speaks that once Arjuna visited this place and he was thirsty. He saw a hermitage. He went in and saw sage Agastiya. The sage asked Arjuna if he was seeking any help from him. Arjuna humbly asked for some water to drink. Agasthiya found his kettle (kamandalam) empty. Agasthiya was wondering how his kettle became empty. He thought Sri Krishna might have drunk the water. So the Sage told Arjuna that he should ask Sri krishna for whatever he needed. Arjuna realized his mistake and prayed to Krishna and asked for his pardon for ignoring him. Sri Krishna was pleased and appeared before him. He gave a knife to Arjuna to create a spring here. Accordingly Arjuna sliced the earth with the knife and water gushed out. Arjuna drank the water and quenched his thirst. This tank is called Kadka-Pushkarani. He further prayed to Sri Krishna to stay here for ever. Because Sri Krishna incarnated here because of Parthan (Arjuna) this place came to be known as Parthan-palli. It is also said that Varuna-deva did penance to Sri Vishnu to appear before him as Parthasarathi in this place which Sri Vishnu did. As Partha sarathy incarnated here this place took the name of Parthan-palli. |
