Legend:
Once Mandooga Rishi was in deep penance under the water in this place for many years. One day Doorvasar came to see the Rishi but he did not come out of the water. Sage doorvasa waited for many days. At last he lost his patience and cursed him that he should loose all the merits he earned in his penance and be changed as a frog. But Mandooga rishi did not know any thing about the curse. After a long time he noticed that he had become a frog in the water. Then the frog (Mandooga rishi) found out with its spitual power whatever had happened. Again he did penance to Lord Vishnu for many years. Lord Vishnu appeared before him and lifted the curse. The frog took its human form and Mandooga rishi attained ' moksham ' in this place. From that time this place is called Mandooga-Puri after the name of Sage Mandooga. There are many scriptures represented in sculptures here. This temple is an ancient one but in ruins now.
