Legend:
Once upon a time a sage called Supraber whished to perform an yagna propitiating Sri Vishnu.
He was looking for the right place to do Yaga but he did not find any site to his satisfaction.
Supraber atlast came to this place - Thiru-Thulaivalli-Mangalam. He decided
to perform the yagna here. When he was digging the earth to level the ground
he found a ' balance' and a bow at the depth.
Surprised he took them out and they became a Deva and a Devi. The sage enquired of them about their
curse. They related as follows:
once they were in a merry mood when Kubera passed by. They did not notice him. So angrily he cursed them to become a bow and a ' balance' and be buried deep in the earth. The deva couple were remorse stricken and requested Kubera to reverse his curse. He told them that after many years sage Suprabar would come there to do an yaga and would dig the land. In that process the sage would touch both of them buried as a balance and a bow and they would be freed from the curse. The sage blessed them and he began the Yagna. He gave 'Avirbaga' ( offerings ) to all the devas.Happily all devas with the sage prayed to Lord Vishnu. The lord appeared before them. All Devas and the sage worshiped god Vishnu and wished the Lord to take abode here which the Lord did. Henceforth the Lord Vishnu is called Devapiran in this place. This thirupathi is called a twin-Thirupathi.The second one is located one kilo-meter from here
