Legend:
Recalling epic Ramayana: Ravana kidnaped Sita and took her accross the ocean to Lanka. So for crossing the ocean to kill Ravana and rescue sita Rama did prayer to Samudra-Rajan lying on the grass ( Dharba-sayanam) for seven days. The Samudra-Rajan appeared before Rama and said "you may build a causeway accross the sea with your monkey warriors to reach lanka." Rama was very happy and went to Aadhi-Jaganathan temple and prayed to the diety. The Lord appeared before Rama bestowed a bow and Arrows (Vishnu Dhanusu) and blessed him. Sri Rama built a causeway with the help of the monkeys and crossed the sea. He defeated Ravana and rescued Sita. It is said that while Rama was returning to Ayodhi as requested by his devotees he performed his 'pattabishegam' (crowning) in this place before his main coronation in Ayodhi.
