Legend Sri Maha-vishnu when he was incarnate as Thiri-Vikrama one of his three feet entered in Satyalogam.Brahma saw the lords foot in satyalogam. He washed the foot and worshipped  Sri Vishnu. At that time a drop of water fell form the lords golden anklets on the earth in this place. It became a river and it is called Noopura-Ganga or Silambaru ( in tamil language Silambu means anklets and Aaru is river). Once Eman incarnated as Vrushaba (Bull) and did penance here. Hence this hill is called Vrushaba-giri. Also Dharmadeva did penance for long years and he had the dharshan of Lord Sri Sundara-Rajan (Maha-Vishnu) Dharmadeva was very happy and requested the lord to stay for ever in this place. The Lord agreed to the request. Dharmadeva was very glad and ordered Viswakarma to build a beautiful temple here. The devas' builder built a temple with a magnificent Vimanam on this hill station. So this is called Azhagar Malai.
