Legend: Once sage Haridha did penance to Sri Vishnu in this palace for many years. Sri Vishnu appeared before the sage and asked him the purpose for the penance. Sage asked the lord " how can illiterate(meaning one who did not learn the vedas epics etc ) people reach you ?" . Vishnu replied to the sage "one who wishes to see me should follow his religious beliefs and duties and practice his doctrines sincerly. I will accept this and grant him whatever he wishes." Also the Lord taught the hymn "Sri Suktham" to sage Haridha. So this place was called Thiru mozhindhan. But in due course it has changed to Thiru-muzhilikkam.
