After killing Ravana Sri Rama stayed at Truda-netrar's hut in this kshetram. Because he killed Ravana he had committed Hatthi Dosha ( to deprive any human being of his life is a sin. This rule will be apply even though Rama was god's incarnation.) Accoding to the sage's advice he stayed in the hermitage for four days and gave a golden cow to a brahmin as alms. That person sold the golden cow and built the temple as it is now.Hence this place is called sempon sai kovil
Legend

There was a brahmin boy named Kasyappa living in Kanchi with his parents. They were very poor. Kasyappa tried many ways to escape from poverty. But he could not. Once he met a sage who taught him 'Narayana Jabam' and advised him to recite it 32 000 times in three days at Nangoor kshetram. Accordingly he left kanchi and reached Nangoor. Kasyappa selected a quiet place under a neem tree and recited 'Narayana-Jabam' sincerely 32 000 times in three days. Narayana appeared before him and granted a boon with lot of golden bars. From that day the deity is called 'Sempon Rangan'.
