Once Sage Medhavi did deep prayer to Lakshmi that she should be born as his daughter. His prayer came true. Sri Mahalakshmi incarnated as a baby under the Mahila Pushpa tree and was crying. The sage heard the baby cry and woke up from his meditation. When he saw the baby, he happily he took her to his hermitage. The child was named Vanchulavalli and she grew up to be an young maidan .She was an ardent devootee of Sri vishnu. Every day she used to do puja four times. One day when she was worshiping the lord he appeared before her and said he would come to the earth in the right time and marry her.
Accordingly Lord Vasudeva came to this place - Naraiyur and got married to her. He stayed here itself as wished by his consort Sri Vanchulavalli.
